The Effect of Migratory Grief on Mental Health During Christmas

A special session dedicated to reflecting on how to navigate Christmas away from our families and addressing the phenomenon of sadness during these meaningful dates.

Psychologist Liliana Torella shared valuable tips for better managing the emotions we may feel during this time — when distance, different customs, and losses make us remember that we are spending the holidays as migrants in another country.

Our “Soporte Entre Pares” program is led by psychologists Rachel Lee, Adriana Gioni, and Liliana Torella and has offered, since 2018, a community-based, empathetic, and judgment-free space created to provide support and emotional containment to forced migrants seeking humanitarian protection in the United States.
