For the third consecutive year, VIA has been invited to participate in the summer courses on human rights and advocacy training for the UN, promoted for The School of New York Times. These courses aim to raise students’ awareness about the forced migration of the Venezuelan community and other nationalities served by VIA.
Niurka Meléndez, VIA’s director, explained that this year, there have been three sessions: one on June 17, one on July 1, and another on July 15, all at Fordham University. “During all my presentations, I highlighted the difficulties and challenges experienced by forced migrants, shed light on the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, and showcased the impactful work carried out by VIA for over 60 students. I answered questions they had on these critical topics,” said Meléndez.
According to Meléndez, these activities provide an excellent opportunity for young people in training to understand the reality faced by immigrants and to raise awareness about the communities forced to flee their countries of origin.
