In this special session of “Peer Support,” psychologist Adriana Gioni addresses topics such as migratory grief and other losses that receive no social recognition, yet leave a real mark on our mental health and how we feel about ourselves.
Grief that isn’t cried in public.
Losses you don’t know how to explain.
Processes you carry in silence.
Sometimes, the bravest thing is allowing yourself to understand what you feel. Because healing also begins when someone truly understands you, and that is what we do at Peer Support.
Our organization, VIA, has been a pioneer in New York City in recognizing mental health as a human right and an urgent need within migration and international protection processes. This commitment has been sustained since 2018, when our Peer Support program was born — a one-of-a-kind space that integrates emotional first aid, preventive psychological support, and community network building, led by volunteer psychologists who also understand firsthand the challenges of migrating.
