When Life Changes… And No One Sees It: Understanding Silent Grief
In this special session of “Soporte Entre Pares” (Peer Support), psychologist Adriana Gioni addresses topics such as migratory grief and other losses that don’t receive social recognition, yet leave a real mark on our mental health and how we feel about ourselves.
Grief that isn’t cried in public.
Losses you don’t know how to explain.
Processes you carry in silence.
Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is allow yourself to understand what you feel. Because healing also begins when someone understands you — and that’s what we do in Soporte Entre Pares.
Our organization, VIA, has been a pioneer in New York City in recognizing mental health as a human right and an urgent need in migration and humanitarian protection processes. This commitment has been maintained since 2018, when our Soporte Entre Pares program was born — a one-of-a-kind space that integrates emotional first aid, preventive psychological support, and community network building, led by volunteer psychologists who also personally understand the challenges of migrating.
