A Message for Our Community: United in Our Hearts for Venezuela

To the entire VIA community, and to our Venezuelan brothers and sisters both inside and outside the country:
Today, our hearts are heavy, and our minds are focused on only one place: our home, Venezuela. The double earthquake that struck Caracas, Vargas State, and other areas of the country today has filled us with deep anxiety.

We know all too well that distance does not lessen the pain. The anguish felt by those of us abroad is the same as the anguish of those who are there; it is the uncertainty of waiting for a message, the desperation of hoping a phone call goes through, and the constant need to know that our families, friends, neighbors, and every one of our fellow citizens are safe. In moments like this, borders fade away: we are all living through this tragedy together.

We send our most sincere prayers, all our solidarity, and an endless embrace to every affected household. We pray fervently for the protection of all families, for the strength of those who need it most today, and for comfort for those going through these hours of uncertainty.

The Key in Emergencies: Looking Out for One Another
Beyond the material impact, which is still being assessed, we know the emotional toll is immediate and profound. Nature reminds us of our vulnerability, and in the face of that, mental health support and collective empathy are our best tools for relief.

If you are in the country or in direct contact with loved ones there, we invite you to keep these reflections in mind:

Emotions are running high: Fear, confusion, and tension affect all of us, without exception. It is completely normal to feel afraid, but let us try not to act impulsively.
Empathy in the streets: If you have to go outside or interact with others, remember that the person next to you might also be terrified or overwhelmed. Let’s avoid confrontations and understand that many are reacting out of fear. Today more than ever, kindness saves lives.
Protecting the little ones: Children absorb our anxiety without fully understanding what is happening. Let’s try to be a beacon of calm for them, explaining how we feel with love so that they can process their own emotions too.
Be the center of calm for those around you: Taking a deep breath before reacting and maintaining your composure helps them calm down as well.

From the bottom of our hearts at VIA, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe, and that any damage sustained is repairable. You are not alone. We are connected across the distance, holding each other up, with the certainty and faith that we will move forward once again.

We are with you. Stay strong, Venezuela.
